Privacy Policy

This policy describes the technical and submitted data associated with a visit to Hamilton County Criminal History. It also explains how that data is used, when a service provider may receive it, and what choices a visitor has. Continued use of the website signals acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Hamilton County Criminal History does not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to read and answer it. The message is not shared outside the operating team unless disclosure is legally required.

Data We Gather Automatically

Normal server records collect limited technical facts when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Browser type and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • IP address assigned to the device
  • Pages viewed and approximate time on each
  • Referring website, when one is reported

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure broad traffic patterns, including popular pages and where visits end. Analytics providers may combine these observations into site-level reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a submitted query to the chosen search provider
  • Maintain site availability and page speed
  • Diagnose errors and other technical faults
  • Measure which resources visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Hamilton County Criminal History does not maintain, build, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to HCSO, Hamilton County courts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal history. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the selected provider's privacy terms. That company decides how long it keeps data and when it shares data. Review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, HCSO, Tennessee agencies, legal resources, and outside search tools. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's own privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and tailor advertisements.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics services that report traffic and performance
  • Search providers that process a visitor's query
  • Advertising networks that serve page advertisements
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures are used for data under our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute protection, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under age 18. Data identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted when reasonably verified.

Your Data Rights

Applicable Tennessee and federal law may provide rights over personal data. The Tennessee Public Records Act, including Tenn. Code Ann. § 10-7-503, governs qualifying access to records held by Tennessee government custodians; it does not turn this private website into a government records office. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:

  • Request access to personal data held about them
  • Ask that inaccurate data be corrected
  • Request deletion where the law permits it
  • Object to certain processing where that right applies

Updates to This Policy

A revised policy will be posted here and identified by a new effective date. Visitors should review the current version when privacy practices matter to their use.
